In “Master in the House” (집사부일체), trot singer Hong Jin Young (홍진영) invites the butlers singer / actor Lee Seung Gi (이승기), BTOB’s Yook Sungjae (육성재), actor Lee Sang Yoon (이상윤), comedian Yang Sehyung (양세형), actor Shin Sungrok (신성록) and trot singer Park Hyun Bin (박현빈/박지웅) to her place to practice trot music. Hong Jin Young’s abode is familiar to her guests as it has appeared in various TV shows and includes illuminating pendant lights, a wine collection and her prized karaoke machine. Hong Jin Young treats her guests to rainbow rice cakes known as mujigae ddeok (무지개떡) as well as her special health concoction made of radishes, apples and soy sauce which she assures will protect vocal chords and prevent colds. Hong Jin Young shares trot tips to the butlers including how to change the pronunciation of the trot lyrics and the importance of facial expressions to engage the audience. Regarding the link between trot music and rainbows, Hong Jin Young explains, “Here’s why I said trot is like a rainbow. A rainbow has various colours. Trot also has a variety of colours and emotions. Trot has its own triumphs and tragedies. It’s rare for a genre to have this factor. I think trot is the only genre that’s like that”.
